We Now Live Full time on Our 34ft Fixer Upper Sailboat and NOT in the Caribbean
Well……
We spent almost five months living full-time aboard Oasis, our 34 foot trimaran sailboat, and I have to report that it has been going better than I had expected or hoped!!! Yes, we DID move into a lovely Air B&B for the coldest three months of the winter, but, in less than two weeks we will be done with that and back on the boat full time.
Each day, captain Al is working hard to figure out ways to make our living space more efficient and comfortable. He has set up the electrical system so that we can now run TWO heaters, a coffee pot, a tea kettle and all of our electronic devices pretty much at the same time without blowing a circuit. Definitely awesome.
We are experimenting with new ways of stowing our stuff and the purging continues as we realize that there is so little that we really need to be comfortable. Figuring out new ways to set up the bed to give ourselves a few extra inches of width has made a big difference in our comfort. Insulating the boat with yoga mats (who would’ve thought of that??) — has made it so all the drafty places no longer let in cold air and the nice warm air stays in our boat !! Believe it or not — when we consistently achieved an indoor temperature of 70 plus degrees. We pay a flat fee for our electrical hook up at the marina and it’s already been paid in full through…
