The following selections from my journal were written while I was attending my first ever seven day Ignatian silent retreat at a retreat center in Massachusetts. It was a dream of mine, for quite some time to attend one of these retreats…..As you will see, if you follow along…..It started out beautifully. Unfortunately, it would not remain that way….
Monday- Captain’s Log Stardate 11/16/2020
I can see there is going to be a rhythm to my day here…..
I let myself sleep in this morning , which was ok but the result of that was that I missed coffee!!
(Which is available in the dining room from 6:15 am to 9am.)
I just missed it.
I woke up and reached right for the daily prayer book that came with the room. I had already gotten some significant insights reading it yesterday, so I figured I would stick with that. It is liturgical in nature with daily prayers and Scripture readings, along with reflections written by various outside contributors . I think I am going to subscribe to it. I already like it very much.
Going forward, I am going to aim to get up be 8 so that I can get a coffee and eat one of my granola bars for breakfast while doing my morning devotional from the little book.
So I had to wait until lunch to get coffee……boy did those first few sips taste good!!!
After a lovely hot shower, I took my journal and went to find that chaise I had spotted yesterday. Journaled there for a while. I am already doing SO MUCH WRITING!!!!! I then went to the big table by the office to check out the art supplies. They have a room with an ocean view and a large table of paints, colored pencils, crayons, craypas, paper and coloring books. (Again- I didn’t need to bring my own!) I colored to decorate a cover for my journal so it will be pretty and not look like a crappy old notebook. More journaling ensued as I…
