BOAT LIFE- My Morning Routine and Memories of St. John

Today is the day I finally get to do it. The morning routine that I have imagined for the last six months. This was the plan once we moved onto the boat — of how I would enjoy my mornings. Unfortunately, we moved down to the boat on November 1st, so this plan wasn’t really that feasible during sub zero freezing temperatures, snow and lots and lots of slippery ice.

Today however, it looks to be shaping up to be a 70° day. I woke up in my cozy little bunk, excited to try this routine that I have been imagining in my mind for months.

It is about a half mile walk from our dock to the main street of East Greenwich, which is lined with cool funky shops, coffee shops and restaurants. A plethora of historic buildings, which have been here for hundreds of years, and all a few blocks away from a bustling waterfront.

The marina is still shut down in terms of bathrooms and water, so until they turn the water back on, we need to leave the boat to use the facilities. We do have a small porta potty on the boat -in case of emergency -but we try not to use it because emptying it out is a grizzly task and we try to only save it for when there’s absolutely no other place to go.

I had decided that the Main Street coffee shop would be my first morning stop, and that way, I would be able to use their facilities, grab a cup of extremely rich coffee and sit at one of their outdoor tables either doing my morning writing or answering my emails and social media.

The bonus benefit of this is that I add in an extra walk to my day. I have gotten back to walking in the afternoons, usually around 2 PM , since the weather has stopped being so frigid. Now my walk schedule has jumped to two walks a day!! I am always in better shape when we live on the boat, because we usually have to walk to most things, and I am outside which inspires me to stay outside and do outside things.

So here I sit. Thinking and writing and observing life. It is a bustling little Main Street, and as I watch folks walk by with their dogs, in their exercise gear, with their coffees and stopping to chat with one another, I am excited about the prospect of finally being able to make some friends here.
